What are apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are structured programs that combine on-the-job training with classroom instruction. They offer a unique opportunity to earn while you learn and gain practical experience in your chosen field. The RTMA partners with over 35 companies and supports more than 240 apprentices throughout the nine-county region. The program offers apprentices the ability to build skills and gain credentials that lead to successful manufacturing careers.
The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP) bridges the gap between education and industry, offering high school students in the region opportunities to explore careers in advanced manufacturing. Through partnerships with local manufacturers and technical education programs, FLYAP helps students gain real-world skills and experience that set them up for future success. With job shadows, paid co-ops, facility tours, and career exploration activities, FLYAP is creating a skilled workforce ready for the modern manufacturing world.

Test guides published by the Department of Civil Service are typically targeted to specific entry-level titles and are not provided for every civil service examination. If a test guide is available, it will be indicated on the examination announcement. Test guides for local government examinations are made available 60 days prior to the date of the written test. Monroe County Civil Service exam schedule and job announcements
Section 55-b of the New York State Civil Service Law authorizes the New York State Civil Service Commission to designate up to 1,700 positions normally filled through competitive examination to be filled through the appointment of qualified persons with disabilities.
Certain job titles currently do not require the civil service exam as part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) program. Through NY HELPS, state agencies can more swiftly hire candidates that meet the minimum qualifications for certain positions. Learn more about NY HELPS and qualifying job titles through the link.

With over 120 campuses across the United States, Job Corps provides free career training and education for low-income 16- through 24-year-olds. Here, students get the experience they need to begin a career or apprenticeship, go on to college, or join the military. The best part? It’s free.
Free 6-week-long workforce training program includes 2 weeks of classroom instruction and 100 hours of clinical training. Upon completion, graduates are no longer considered trainees and are eligible to fill positions in our UR Medicine Labs Outpatient Service Centers.
